Family

Went to a family event this weekend. Made me think about family – blended, traditional, splintered, blessed – what's a family, what makes a family?
You’re born into this random bunch of people. You may be a fit or not. You may get along and agree on stuff or struggle and not agree on stuff at all. You may think you can work it out, or think it’s totally not worth the effort.
Family is more than relatives. Family is the ones who’ve “got your back” and you’ve got theirs. It’s the place you can go home, and they take you in. It's a feeling you’re home when you’re with them.
Family is something you can have with anyone, any kind of people – doesn’t matter how you look, what you wear, how you talk and any messy stuff about you and your life.
It's tradition, connection, obligation and the glue that holds us together and to the earth.

Sometimes even pets are family.
Tried to figure this out over and over – what is the feeling we want? It’s connectedness and we can do that, we can make that.
What do you think?
