So how’s your diet? Really?
Did you know there’s this back and forth between your gut and your brain? All that bacteria and stuff inside your gut is called your microbiome and if you mess it up you could end up with a serious need for the bananas, rice, applesauce and toast diet!
Also, that back and forth between your gut and your brain is really important because it affects your mood/how you feel. It’s not just me saying that – it’s Science!
Here are some things on the internet to look at if you want to learn more:
Shots, Health News from NPR: “Research has demonstrated that the brain and gut are in constant communication and that changes in the microbiome are linked to mood and mental health.”
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences: “The microbiome is the collection of all microbes, such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and their genes, that naturally live on our bodies and inside us. Although microbes require a microscope to see them, they contribute to human health and wellness in many ways.”
National Institutes of Health: “patients with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) had lower microbial richness and diversity” and “some gut microbiota were inversely correlated with anxiety, suggesting that targeting these gut microbiomes could be a promising approach for preventing anxiety” and “although the specific gut microbiota of people with depression varied from study to study, all these discoveries showed that gut microbiota composition significantly changed in depressive individuals and indicated that gut microbiota might be a novel target for the prevention and management of depression”

So how’s your diet really? (Mine is no role model for sure.)
